Thanks for checking in – as always, I hope you’re all well and safe and that you’re close to getting back to a ‘normal’ life.
I’m currently on summer break from school before school starts again on August 23rd. It has been a long summer – two months, when school starts again – and I don’t feel like it has been a summer break. I’ve been doing nothing but design challenges, learning more about coding and just doing anything possible to be the best I can be and be as prepared as I can be for the second half of school.
Behance.net – Follow My Progress
As mentioned, I’ve been very focused on improve my design and coding skills. My goal is to work with UI/UX and web design in general post graduation next year. Therefore, I’ve been creating a lot of designs and I’ve also created a profile on a website called Behance – which is the world’s largest creative network for showcasing and discovering creative work.
“Behance is part of the Adobe Creative Cloud and is used by creative specialists across the world to showcase their online portfolio of work – graphic design, illustration, fashion, photography, advertising, fine arts, game design, and much more.”
I figured the quote describes Behance better than I’d ever be able to. Basically, it’s a platform for me to showcase my work and together with Instagram these two profiles will be my way of showcasing my projects.
If you wish to follow me on either Behance or Instagram, you can find the links here – I’ve also added my LinkedIn, because I’m very active on there as well and would love to expand my network:
Everything is going well regarding school and working on my career. My physical health still isn’t better since the car accident, but let’s not dwell on that now – let me tell you why I’m currently the happiest I’ve been in years.
I’m Going On An Adventure!
Yes, I’m going on an adventure – for the first time in 2,5 years, since I moved back to Denmark from Ireland back in 2019 – the summer before COVID hit. AND I’M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT IT!
I’m happy to say that I’ll be travelling to Amsterdam on Saturday (August 14th) and stay there until the 18th. I’ll be having two ‘full’ days on the days of travelling, as I’ll be in Amsterdam at 7.30 AM and I won’t leave until 11 PM on the 18th. And of course the 3 full days in between the days of travelling. The flight from Denmark is only about 1h 20m!
I wasn’t supposed to travel this year because of my terrible finances (being a student), COVID and whatever other issues our world is facing at the moment. But, the other day I spotted a good deal on a flight and a hotel in the center of Amsterdam and I simply couldn’t look the other way – SO I BOOKED IT, AND I CRIED WHEN I BOOKED IT!
Going to Amsterdam – Close to Moving There
Like a lot of people, I’ve been in Amsterdam Schiphol (Amsterdam Airport) loads of times. Every time I had to travel back and forth between Denmark and Ireland, I transferred in Amsterdam – but, I’ve never been outside of the airport.
I’ve always wanted to visit Amsterdam, but honestly, we never really travel to the places closest to us and while I can honestly say I’ve had the opportunity before, I’ve just always chosen elsewhere. And now, I’m taking whatever I can get and thankfully, Amsterdam seems like such a vibrant city with loads of things to explore.
Before leaving Ireland in 2019, I was super close to moving to Amsterdam as I had a job offer from a travel company. Unfortunately, the company got shut down before I moved there – I guess I was lucky that it was before moving there and not after. Ever since, I’ve been looking at flight to Amsterdam on a regular basis.
Seek Discomfort – Travelling Alone
I will be travelling alone, like I’ve always done. I love travelling alone and I’ve written several posts about it – like these ones Why I Love Solo Travelling or 5 Things To Know Before Solo Travelling.
I’ve been travelling alone and moved abroad several times, so it’s nothing new. As mentioned in the post about why I love solo travelling, I love it because it forces me to talk to other people and interact with the locals. I used to be terrified just thinking about asking a stranger for help, but I must admit that I’ve met some amazing people doing so in the past and I have no doubt that I’ll be meeting some amazing people in Amsterdam as well.
Seek Discomfort has a big impact on my life and I can’t wait to finally explore a new place, meet new people and hopefully make some new friends along the way!
Wrapping It Up
So yes, I’m so excited. I’ve already packed my back a week before my flight. Unpacking my Osprey backpack from the deepest corners of my closet was an amazing feeling. It certainly has been an emotional rollercoaster – not just since booking the flight, but also these past years.
A lot of downs and now I need to start focusing on me, myself and I – and I need adventures like this to stay motivated and make sure I never forget my life goals and dreams of travelling a lot more in the future.
Travelling has been such a big part of my life and having been ‘locked up’ in Denmark for so long has been a serious test of my mental strength and it has forced me to learn more about myself and how I can be happy – even when life’s tough and nothing goes to plan.
I can keep writing about this, but I’m going to stop here. If you’re from Amsterdam or if you’ve great knowledge of Amsterdam, then please let me know if you have any recommendations of things I MUST try – or maybe you want to meet up for a coffee, a walk or get a tattoo together.
I appreciate you stopping by and thank you!
Take care of yourself,
